Main Elementary Makes a Colorful Scene for PAWS-itive Behavior

Bursts of color brought on the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) celebration for Main Elementary students on Friday March 25, as the 2nd annual Color Run was underway.

There was no lack of upbeat energy as music boomed through speakers and cheering parents lined up along the sides with encouraging signs held high.

Kindergarten teacher Brittany Owens explained, “This is for kids that have PAWS-itive behavior. We actually have about 250 participants and we have a really good parent turnout today.”

Owens explained that PAWS stands for prompt, accept responsibility, work hard and show respect and that the celebration was for the third nine weeks of school.

“The kids are wearing white today,” Owens smiled. “Hopefully by the end of the run they’re going to be very colorful.”

At the siren’s sound, the Run began. Teachers were stationed with color in hand, ready to launch a rainbow as the kids ran past.

Principal Dr. LaRoyce Sublett was on the scene looking just as colorful as the event. He brought out his tie-dye wearing, curly haired alter ego, DJ Sublett, for the occasion.

“This is so important for the kids,” he said behind his festive shades, “to be able to get out, get some relief and have some fun, and show that doing good in school and having good behavior, respecting others and respecting your peers is vital to the success of our PBIS school.”
