“Today, the Georgia House affirmed our commitment to protecting integrity and fairness for female athletes with the passage of the Riley Gaines Act,” said Speaker Jon Burns. “No young woman should ever be forced to face a biological male on the court, on the field or in the locker room—and I’m proud of this legislation that brings us another step closer to codifying protections for girls’ sports. I want to thank State Representative Josh Bonner for championing this bill, each member of the House for their dedication to protecting girls’ sports and Riley Gaines for lending her support to the House as we fight to safeguard fair and safe athletic competition for Georgia’s female athletes.”

Under the Riley Gaines Act, biological males would be prohibited from competing on sports teams designated for girls and women at every level, separate changing facilities, bathrooms and/or locker rooms would be required for athletic events, athletic scholarships designated for women could not be awarded to biological males and private schools that compete against public schools would be required to adhere to the standards set forth in the bill.
