The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the Evans County Board of Education.
The GBI confirmed to TheGeorgiaVirtue.com on Thursday that an investigation has been opened following a request by Evans County Sheriff Mac Edwards. Under Georgia law, requests for investigation can only be initiated by a police chief, a sheriff, a district attorney, or a superior court judge.
The launch of an investigation follows a tumultuous past two months for the Evans County Board of Education with the publication of the Board’s financial audit, which revealed a number of concerning financial practices, and the departure of longtime Superintendent Marty Waters. Notably, Waters’ last day was Saturday, May 30.
Due to the ongoing investigation, no addtional information is available at this time.
