As part of a statewide initiative by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) was honored at a ceremony in Atlanta on Tuesday, July 22, for completing the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification program.

This marks the first time an entire school system has participated in the certification process simultaneously, with 20 TCSG colleges completing the process, and 2 others working toward completion. The certification represents the culmination of a comprehensive three-year effort focused on developing and implementing new policies and procedures to enhance the professionalism, accountability, and effectiveness of campus police departments.

To earn certification, departments must meet 141 rigorous standards set forth by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. For OTC, that process concluded with an on-site evaluation conducted on March 24. The Joint Review Committee of the Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program now recognizes the Ogeechee Tech Police Department as a Certified Law Enforcement Agency for the period of April 2025 through March 2028.

“It’s been an honor to have played a role in this process to become a certified law enforcement agency,” said OTC Police Chief Nathan Tirey. “We have worked diligently to ensure that we meet all 141 standards that are required to be awarded this certification.”
