A man convicted of murder and other heinous crimes who was erroneously released from a Florida jail was recently located in Georgia – at the home of a city councilwoman in a small town.
James Edward Daniels was captured by U.S. Marshals last week after he was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County. Daniels, whose conviction came in federal court, was transferred to the county jail last week for another matter. After three nights, he was released by county jail staff, prompting a manhunt across the southeast.
Local authorities offered a reward of up to $30,000 for information related to Daniels’ arrest, but U.S. Marshals discovered that Daniels was communicating with a city councilwoman in Reynolds, Georgia, a small city in Taylor County.
“At that time, of course, we said set up a perimeter and we approached her, went to her house, knocked on the door,” Reynolds Police Chief Lonnie Holder said on social media. Shortly thereafter, Daniels was located at the home of Timishea Price and both were arrested – Price by Reynolds PD and Daniels by U.S. Marshals.
Price now faces charges for hindering the apprehension of a criminal while Daniels was extradited back to Florida.
Daniels was convicted for a 2020 kidnapping and torture of three men, two of whom died as a result.
The City of Reynolds listed a population of 926 with 486 households in 2020. Under Georgia law, Price will remain in her position as city councilwoman until the case is indicted by a grand jury unless she resigns.
