The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) are investigating after a fatal shooting in Springfield.
On November 4, 2025, deputies were dispatched to a home on Hummingbird Lane just after 9 p.m. for property damage from a shooting. When deputies arrived on scene, they found an adult male deceased on the ground with a gunshot wound.
The shooter, Alonzo Jolomna Simaj, fled to Chatham County. Captain Gene Harley and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office captured Simaj sometime later off of Ogeechee Road.
The victim has yet to be identified.
Simaj faces felony murder with more charges pending, according to Captain Steve Edenfield of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
