This is a press release from FEMA.

Under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Noem, FEMA recently approved over $971 million in funding to support recovery for past disasters in Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee for Public Assistance projects, which includes debris removal, emergency protective measures and the repair or replacement of public infrastructure damaged by recent disasters.

This regional funding is part of a broader effort announced by the Department of Homeland Security. In this past week alone, DHS and FEMA approved more than $2.2 billion in Public Assistance projects to communities across the U.S.

Here are some FEMA grants recently approved across the Southeast:

  • $200 million to North Carolina Emergency Management for emergency protective measures taken following Helene.
  • $86 million to Kentucky Division of Emergency Management for debris removal operations following the July 2022 flood.
  • $58 million to the Georgia Department of Transportation for debris removal operations following Helene.
  • $36 million to the South Carolina Department of Transportation for debris removal operations related to Helene.

  • $6.4 million to Walthall County, Mississippi for debris removal operations following the March 2025 severe storms.

FEMA will continue to review additional projects and obligate funds on a rolling basis as eligibility is confirmed and scopes of work are finalized.
