Keep Statesboro-Bulloch Beautiful (KSBB) is inviting residents to take part in the Greatest American Cleanup on Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers from across the community will come together to remove litter from public spaces in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
The Great American Cleanup, founded in 1999 by Keep America Beautiful, is a nationwide initiative focused on creating cleaner, more beautiful communities. Each spring, it mobilizes millions of volunteers to improve public spaces, from planting trees and pollinator gardens to removing litter along roadways and waterways. The current national goal is to collect 25 billion pieces of litter from parks, waterways and public areas by July 4, 2026.
This year, KSBB is recognizing the ongoing support of Keep America Beautiful and the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, which have funded and sponsored many of the organization’s litter prevention efforts. “We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support you’ve shown our affiliate and to the many residents and students who call this community home,” said KSBB Coordinator Timeka Shannon. “That support allows us to expand our litter prevention efforts, engage more volunteers and create greener spaces that bring people together to make a visible difference across Statesboro.”
Volunteers are encouraged to pre-register at keepstatesborobullochbeautiful.org or sign in on the day of the event. Check-in will take place at the Statesboro City Hall front porch, located at 50 E. Main St., from 9 AM – 12 PM, where participants will receive cleanup assignments and supplies.
The event is free and open to individuals, families and community groups, and all litter collection equipment will be provided.
“This is a great opportunity to give back and connect with others while spending time outdoors,” said KSBB Coordinator Timeka Shannon. “So much of our work is possible because of the incredible volunteers who show up and take pride in our community.”
