The inmate who escaped from the Jenkins County Jail Sunday evening is facing charges for a number of felony offenses stemming from an undercover law enforcement operation.
The Jenkins County Sheriff’s Office reported Sunday evening that Jarrell “Buster” Jones” escaped around 9:00 p.m. Just after 7:00 a.m. Monday morning, Jones was back in custody.
Court records and previous reports of Jones’ arrest indicate the inmate referred to in the post is 34-year-old Jirell Ramon Jones.
According to the warrants, Jones was arrested by the Millen Police Department in February 2026 for:
- Possession of Methamphetamine (felony)
- Electronically Furnishing Obscene Material to Minors (misdemeanor)
- Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes (felony)
- Sexual Exploitation of Children (felony)
- Computer or Electronic Pornography (felony)
- Child Molestation (felony)
Summaries from the warrants say that Jones willingly and knowingly attempted to commit an immoral and indecent act to an undercover law enforcement officer with the Millen Police Department who Jones believed to be a 14-year-old minor, “having multiple conversations about sexual topics, and sent two pictures of [explicit]” between March 2025 and February 2026. Jones also allegedly arranged to meet up with the person he believed to be a minor for the purpose of engaging in sexual intercourse in February 2026.
According to the warrants, the Sexual Exploitation of Children charge stems from Jirell’s attempt to have the person he believed to be a minor send sexually explicit photos of themselves to him. The Child Molestation charge stemmed from Jirell’s alleged attempt to offer to engage in sex with the person he believed to be a minor.
In April 2026, defense counsel for Jirell asked a judge to sign an order for a Mental Evaluation regarding Jirell’s competency to stand trial. It is unclear from public court records if the evaluation was completed, but Jones was indicted by a grand jury in June 2026.
According to the Indictment, Jones was indicted on six counts:
- Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony (the attempted felony being Aggravated Child Molestation)
- Obscene Internet Contact with a Child (using an internet chat room on Facebook)
- Dissemination of Pornography to Minors (allegedly sending a photo with a portion of the human body depicting explicit nudity)
- Sexual Exploitation of Children (misdemeanor) (attempting to persuade the person he believed to be a minor female to send nude photos)
- Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes (attempting to entice a person he believed to be a minor female for the purpose of child molestation)
- Possession of Methamphetamine
He was formally arraigned on those charges in June 2026 and the case has been pending since. Jones had court on September 17 but the case was continued until October. Jones is represented by the Public Defender’s Office.
