Bulloch County Schools implements clear bag rules for high school athletic events

New security upgrades go into effect Oct. 26 in gyms & stadiums

Bulloch County Schools continues to increase security at its high school athletic events.

Beginning October 26, 2026, in coordination with local law enforcement, the school district will uphold a new clear bag requirement at ticketed athletic events in its high school gymnasiums and stadiums. All bags must meet the new requirements and are subject to search upon entry. Failure to consent and submit to these clear bag requirements and bag inspections will result in denial of entry.

The school district’s athletic directors and school administrators provided input for these security upgrades. These procedures, combined with support from school resource officers and other existing security measures will benefit all student athletes, employees and guests. Learn more about the new clear bag requirements and see answers to frequently asked questions at bullochschools.org/clearbag.
Allowed Bags, Packages & Containers
The following bag, package, and container styles and sizes are allowed:

  • Bags that are clear and do not exceed a size of 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches (12” X 6” X 12”)
  • Clear plastic freezer bags (like a Ziploc bag or similar)
  • Small, non-clear clutch or handheld bags that do not exceed 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches (4.5″ x 6.5″) in size.
  • Guests may also still carry items such as binoculars, smartphones, tablets, and cameras as long as they are not in a bag or carrying case.

Prohibited Bags, Packages & Containers
Prohibited items that are not allowed include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Non-clear bags larger than a clutch or handheld bag
  • Duffle bags, cinch bags, cooler bags, diaper bags, backpacks, binocular cases, camera bags, coolers, briefcases, fanny packs, large purses, and luggage of any kind.

Exceptions
These are exceptions to the clear bag requirement at ticketed athletic events in Bulloch County Schools’ high school gymnasiums and stadiums. Any approved exceptions do not extend to friends or family members accompanying a credentialed individual. Venue staff will inspect and make exceptions for the following items:

  • Bags with medically necessary items including insulin and diabetic supplies, oxygen, prescription medications, or other reasonable medical requirements. The person requiring the supplies must remain with the bag.
  • Bags carried by working athletic game officials
  • Bags carried by working law enforcement or emergency medical services personnel
  • Bags with job-essential equipment carried by working coaches and athletic staff or contracted athletic training staff
  • Media granted credentials are exempt from the clear bag requirements for any necessary equipment they bring.

Media may purchase a ticket and cover athletic events from the stands of our gymnasiums and stadiums. No media credentials are required for this level of event access. Media, like other event guests, must comply with clear bag safety requirements to gain entry. Media who want to cover a ticketed athletic event from designated on-field or on-court media areas in our high school gymnasiums and stadiums must request media credentials from the high school’s athletic director for regular season games or from the Georgia High School Athletic Association for certain semi-final or final games. Making a request does not guarantee approval. Media granted credentials are exempt from the clear bag requirements for any necessary equipment they bring.

This is a press release from the Bulloch County School System.
