This is a press release from the Statesboro Police Department.
On 3/6/25 at 12:02 p.m. multiple shots were fired in a section of Southern Downs Apartments in the 700 block of Georgia Avenue. Officers arrived almost immediately and located three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. They included a 20-year-old female, a 26-year-old male, and a 43-year-old female. None are believed to be current GSU students. The scene was chaotic but patrol officers were able to quickly secure the area and render aid to the wounded. All three were transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah where they are currently in stable condition.
Detectives arrived on scene and processed the parking lot where the shooting occurred, searching several vehicles and an apartment. Four firearms were recovered during the searches. Ballistic comparisons between the firearms and the shell casings recovered will be conducted by the GBI Crime Lab. Multiple interviews were conducted by detectives as well.
At this point, the preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting resulted from an ongoing dispute between roommates. These roommates gathered support from family and friends resulting in a physical fight which escalated into a shooting. The investigation continues and criminal charges against certain of the involved parties are probable.
