BROOKLET, Ga. (AP) — On December 15, Southeast Bulloch High School appointed Jason Anthony as its interim head football coach. Anthony, who has served the school for five years as a teacher and assistant coach, stepped into the role following the resignation of head coach Jared Zito, who guided the team for five seasons beginning in July 2021. The school administration plans to post the job for a permanent head coach position following the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year. Anthony will be eligible to apply.

Anthony, who is originally from Augusta, is well-known on campus as a health and physical education teacher at SEBHS. He brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served at various high schools as an assistant coach for 18 years, with 16 of those years spent as a defensive coordinator.

“It’s an honor to be selected as the interim head football coach at Southeast Bulloch,” Anthony shared. “My family and I love being part of the Brooklet community. I’m ready to hit the ground running.”

“We are confident that Coach Anthony’s deep knowledge of our program and his commitment to our student-athletes and school make him the ideal choice to lead us as an interim head coach during this transitional period,” said Principal Julie Mizell,Ed.D.

Recognized for his strong emphasis on defense, discipline, and player development, Coach Anthony has earned a reputation for leading teams that compete with toughness, precision, and pride. His leadership highlights accountability, preparation, and teamwork—principles that align closely with the core values of Bulloch County Schools.

Dr. Julie Mizell expressed gratitude for Coach Zito’s contributions and emphasized the school’s commitment to continuity and excellence within the program. The Bulloch County school district and SEBHS wish Jared Zito well in his future coaching endeavors. Coach Zito’s five-season tenure saw significant accomplishments. His final season in 2025 finished 5-5 overall (5-4 region). The 2024 campaign was a high point, with the team achieving a 10-3 record and a 7-2 region finish. In his first season (2021), he led Southeast Bulloch to its first state playoff victory in nearly 50 years. He achieved his 100th career coaching win during the 2024 season.
