Public Assistance Requested to Identify Suspects in Two Gordon County Fires

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced this week that two separate structure fires in Gordon County are currently under investigation as suspected arsons.

The first incident occurred on May 29, 2025, when Gordon County firefighters responded to a fire at a vacant home on Porch Loop Street in Calhoun around 4:30 a.m. Surveillance footage shows two individuals entering the structure and exiting shortly thereafter. Moments later, the house was engulfed in flames.

The second incident took place on July 21, 2025, involving a residential structure fire on Red Bud Rd in Calhoun. Video evidence shows a masked individual disabling the home’s security cameras before the fire ignited. Firefighters responded to the scene around 1:52 a.m., and the State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to assist with the investigation.

“We are thankful that no injuries or fatalities occurred in either of these cases,” said Commissioner King. “Now, we need the public’s help to identify those responsible. A reward of up to $10,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the individuals involved. Callers may remain anonymous.”
