Bryan County Sheriff Mark Crowe is responding to concerns from the public about law enforcement’s use of Flock Safety and automated license plate readers (ALPRs), saying an internal review of his agency’s use of the technology found no misuse by sheriff’s office personnel but prompted tighter restrictions, additional training requirements, and greater public transparency.
In an open letter dated September 9, Crowe acknowledged recent controversies involving Flock Safety systems across the country and in Georgia, saying incidents involving misuse have raised “legitimate concerns about oversight, accountability, and safeguards.” He said both law enforcement agencies and Flock Safety “must do better.”
The open letter was posted on the agency Facebook page, but the agency immediately closed the comments so public feedback could not be provided. This is the only Facebook post on the page with closed comments.
