The Glennville Housing Authority is under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, TheGeorgiaVirtue confirmed Friday.
The GBI said Friday morning that the Glennville Police Chief requested assistance from the state agency regarding allegations of misuse of funds.
The Housing Authority of the City of Glennville is a local public housing agency that provides government-subsidized housing for low-income residents. While the Housing Authority has connections to the City of Glennville, it is its own separate entity.
Housing authorities in Georgia are funded by a mix of federal, state, local, and program-generated revenue, but the overwhelming majority of funding comes from the federal government, specifically the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). At the state level, the funds are allocated through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. In terms of local appropriations, funding can flow through land grants, tax incentives, direct contributions, and other mechanisms.
Additional information on the investigation itself is limited as the investigation is ongoing.
