Pre-K students from Smiles, Giggles, and Hugs Child Development Center recently visited several programs at Ogeechee Technical College (OTC), giving the young learners a hands-on introduction to healthcare and early childhood education.

During their visit, the children spent time with students in OTC’s Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, and Early Childhood Care and Education programs. Each program hosted interactive activities designed to introduce the Pre-K students to basic health and learning concepts in a fun and engaging environment.

“Having the Pre-K kids come visit our classroom was so exciting for them and us!” said Medical Assisting student Vanessa Dajui. “It gave us a glimpse of what it’d be like to work in the pediatric field. It was so fun to see how curious they were!”

In the Dental Assisting program, OTC students shared lessons about dental hygiene, including the importance of proper brushing and flossing. The Pre-K students learned about “germ bugs” and had the opportunity to sit in a dental chair and see dental equipment up close.

The Medical Assisting program also welcomed the group with hands-on activities focused on basic medical care. The children practiced applying gauze and bandages to stuffed animals, tried on personal protective equipment, and learned how healthcare professionals help keep patients healthy.

The visit also included time with students in OTC’s Early Childhood Care and Education program. Through guided activities and play-based learning, the Pre-K students experienced the type of engaging classroom environment that supports early childhood development while OTC students gained valuable experience interacting with young learners.

The annual visit provides a meaningful learning opportunity for both the visiting children and OTC students. For OTC students, the experience supports curriculum objectives by allowing them to practice communication, patient education, and child engagement skills in a real-world setting.
