The Bulloch County Animal Shelter is pleading for the help of the public as their shelter is now at capacity.
Bulloch County Animal Services took to social media over the weekend to announce that it cannot take any more dogs due to the shelter being full. They’re also approaching capacity for cats.
“Please DO NOT pick up a stray and plan/expect to be able to bring straight to Animal Services for us to take in right now. We truly have zero available space for dogs at this time and cannot just create a space for you to drop an animal off, especially without a required scheduled intake appointment when said space does become available,” Sunday’s post read.
BCAS also said that upon clearing some of the spots, they will be reserved for high priority and emergencies calls that may come.
BCAS asked the following of the public:
- If you see an animal that is of concern, call Animal Services at 912-764-4529 with enough information for the animal to be located
- If you cannot hold/house the animal for BCAS, do not pick up the animal
- Understand that if you pick up the animal and take the animal to your home/another location away from where the animal was found, the found report, care, and well-being becomes your responsibility until BCAS has space available at the shelter
- Understand you cannot rehome a found/stray animal to someone else without going through the proper required procedures
- Do not try to surrender the animal in another county
“Unfortunately, with the overcrowding of our facility we are currently experiencing (along w/so many others across our state and nation), we just simply cannot accommodate every stray at this time. With that being said, please also remember to show animal services staff your support and understanding, and not belittle and/or tell them that they do not care about the animal you’re calling about just because we cannot accommodate your request or take in an animal at that moment. We promise, if we could take every animal in need in, we would do it!”
