Eleven years after a Bulloch County woman was found dead in her home, a man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with her death.
According to an October 30, 2026, press release from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, Perry Edwards was booked into the Bulloch County Jail Thursday following an investigation into the death of Betty Jean King.
On June 6, 2015, a family member discovered King’s body inside her residence on George Road in Bulloch County. Deputies and investigators responded to the home, processed the crime scene, and collected evidence. Investigators determined that King had suffered multiple blunt force injuries.
Investigators submitted evidence to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab and conducted numerous interviews, but the investigation eventually went cold.
Over the last several years, investigators and crime scene technicians continued reviewing witness statements and physical evidence in an effort to develop new leads. According to the Sheriff’s Office, those efforts eventually resulted in investigators establishing probable cause against Edwards.
Arrest warrants were issued for Edwards on June 16, 2026, and a Bulloch County grand jury indicted him on September 20, 2026. He now faces chahrges of:
- Malice Murder -1 count
- Felony Murder -3 counts
- Aggravated Assault – 1 count
- Aggravated Battery -1 count
- False Imprisonment – 1 count
Bulloch County Sheriff Noel Brown and District Attorney Catherine Sumner commended investigators for their continued work on the case.
