Assault on Camera

A video posted on social media this week appears to show an incident between 27-year-old Michael Hendrix Flaherty of Richmond Hill and Manning, who is from Reidsville.

The doorbell camera shows four girls outside the front door of a home with a male, presumably Flaherty. As Manning makes his way toward the house, three girls go inside. The third girl hurried the second girl over the threshold and closes the door while a fourth girl and the male are sitting on the step. As Manning gets closer, Flaherty gets up and walks toward Manning, saying “Why didn’t you shake my hand earlier?” Manning appears to be holding a plate when Flaherty immediately swings at Manning’s face, causing the plate to fall to the ground. Flaherty then charges Manning and slams him to the ground. Flaherty proceeds to punch Manning at least five times while on top of him.

The girl sitting on the step did not react, but after several seconds, stood up to go inside the house and close the door. At some point, Manning made his way to his feet and Flaherty can be seen falling to the ground. The physical altercation continues, but the 29-second clip on the doorbell cam ends.

From the video, it is unclear at what time this incident occurred, but warrants filed after the incident list the physical altercation between Flaherty and Manning as happening at 3:30 a.m. on September 6.

Warrants Say Home Invasion Immediately Follows

According to warrants filed in Bulloch County Superior Court, also at 3:30 a.m. on September 6, Manning returned to the home with a firearm.

The warrants, sworn out by Deputy Walter French, allege that Manning committed the following acts:

  • Disorderly Conduct (misdemeanor) – by entering a residence with a firearm, acting in a violent or intimidating manner toward several victims, where they were in fear of their life.
  • Criminal Trespass (misdemeanor) – for entering the residence of one of the victims and causing damage to her residence by punching a hole in the vinyl siding with his shotgun
  • Terroristic Threats & Acts (felony) – as he was caught on camera making violent threats toward Michael Flaherty, threatening to shoot and kill him
  • Home Invasion – 1st degree (felony) – for entering the residence of one of the victims while she and others were inside, armed with a shotgun in a violent and intimidating manner.
Flaherty Also Arrested

Flaherty was also arrested by French for his assault on Manning, which was captured on camera. French’s warrant for the misdemeanor offense of Battery contends that Flaherty “intentionally caused substantial physical harm and visible bodily harm to the person of Joh’ntavius Manning, by physically striking him multiple times. Said injuries being — Mr. Manning had a busted lip with swelling.”

As a misdemeanor offense, Flaherty’s charge will be prosecuted in Bulloch County State Court. Records indicate that he was booked into the Bulloch County Jail and released on $2,000 bond.

Manning remains in the Bulloch County Jail, awaiting further court action. A Magistrate Judge denied bond at his first appears, so he must petition for bond before a Superior Court Judge. As of Wednesday afternoon, he had no attorney of record.
