Bulloch County Schools wants families to know that school meals are still available, and the school district is committed to supporting students’ nutrition and well-being during the federal government shutdown.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that funding for its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be temporarily suspended due to the shutdown. This will affect approximately one million families in Georgia.
Students will continue to receive nutritious meals at school through the USDA’s school nutrition programs. This is a reliable food resource for families. If your child eats school meals, it can help alleviate the need to provide meals from home which conserves your family’s food resources.
Breakfast & Lunch are Free for Most Students
Breakfast is free for all students at all of Bulloch County’s 15 schools, and lunch is free for all students at 12 of the schools, which qualify for the USDA’s Community Eligibility Program.
Free & Reduced-Price Meal Program
If your child is not receiving free or reduced-price meals, and you have not completed a School Meal Application for this school year, please consider doing so online at myschoolapps.com or request a paper copy from your school’s cafeteria manager.
Recent Changes in Household Income Could Qualify You for School Meal Assistance
Federal government disruptions can create financial uncertainty, including potential pauses or cuts to wages, benefits, or other forms of government assistance.
