The Bulloch County Board of Education is slated to approve the budget for Fiscal Year 2027 at the regular board meeting on June 11.
While the Board has not yet received final revenue numbers from the state and county, it is confident in the revenue estimates provided by the school district’s Finance Department, which consulted closely with the Georgia Department of Education and the Bulloch County Tax Assessor’s Office.
The school district’s budget is made up of five funds: (1) the General Fund, its main operating fund, of which nearly 89% comprises employee salaries and benefits; (2) the Capital Projects Fund, which funds facility improvements like the approved construction of a new Southeast Bulloch High School; (3) the Special Revenue Fund for grants received; (4) the School Nutrition Fund; and (5) the Debt Service Fund which covers principal and interest payments on bonds issued for construction, renovations, or major capital acquisitions.
The budget process began in January with each school district department preparing its budget and submitting it to the Finance Department for review, collaboration, and revisions. A final compilation, including detailed line items and explanations for any budget increases or decreases by department, was presented to the Board for open discussion on March 26 and April 2. All budget presentations are available at bullochschools.org/board under the Meetings tab. They are linked in each meeting’s agenda.
The tentative budget will be advertised in the print edition of Bulloch County’s legal organ, The Statesboro Herald, on May 21. The district will also make the budget available to other local media outlets and post it on its website at bullochschools.org/budget.
Additional revisions may be made to the tentative budget prior to the Board’s final vote on June 11. A new budget must be finalized no later than June 30, ahead of the new fiscal year which begins on July 1.
