The Bulloch County Board of Education has announced its intention to fully roll back its millage rate for the property taxes it will levy for 2026.
At its July 23 work session, the Board voted unanimously to tentatively adopt a Maintenance & Operations Millage Rate of 10.125 mills, down .275 mills from last year’s rate of 10.400 mills. The final millage rate will be set on August 13, at 6:30 p.m., during the Board’s next scheduled meeting.

What is the Millage Rate?
Each year, the Bulloch County Board of Assessors is required to review the assessed value of taxable property in the county for tax purposes. When the trend of prices on properties that have recently sold in the county indicates an increase in the fair market value of any specific property, the board of assessors is required by law to re-determine the value of that property and adjust the assessment. This is called a reassessment. When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia law requires a rollback millage rate to be computed.
Due to a substantial decrease of $5.9 million in state equalization funds in Fiscal Year 2026, a $2 million increase in the local fair share required by law, and an estimated $1 million decrease in property tax revenues resulting from House Bill 581, as well as inflationary cost adjustments for retirement and health insurance benefits and additional board initiatives, the school district increased its millage rate last year from 7.932 to 10.4 mills. This was only the fifth time in 14 years that the district had not implemented a full rollback. The Board achieved a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2027.

Because the Board of Education’s intention is to fully rollback its millage rate, no public hearings are required. However, concerned citizens may still voice any concerns during the public participation portion of the Board’s regular session on August 13, at 6:30 p.m., in the boardroom of the school district’s Central Office located at 150 Williams Road in Statesboro.
