It is the policy of TheGeorgiaVirtue to report consistently on all individuals, including the publishing of booking photos, irrespective of position or prior position. The former Chief Investigator for the District Attorney’s Office in the Ogeechee Circuit was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Monday morning.
Andrae Tramaine Wright was booked into the Bulloch County Jail on two felony charges and two misdemeanor charges, including: Computer Invasion of Privacy, Misuse of License Plate Data, Stalking, and Violation of Oath by a Public Officer.
Under Georgia law, the charges are defined as follows:
- Computer Invasion of Privacy – Felony – when a person uses a computer or computer network “with the intention of examining any employment, medical, salary, credit, or any other financial or personal data relating to any other person with knowledge that such examination is without authority shall be guilty of the crime of computer invasion of privacy.”
- The offense carries a term of up to 15 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine
- Misuse of License Plata Data – misdemeanor
- The offense carries a sentence of up to 1 year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
- Stalking – misdemeanor – – when a person places under surveillance, or contacts another person at or about a place or places without the consent of the other person for the purpose of harassing and intimidating the other person.
- The offense carries a sentence of up to 1 year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
- Violation of Oath by a Public Officer – Felony – carries a term of imprisonment of one to five years in prison.
According to records, Wright’s bond was set at $10,000.
Statement from the District Attorney’s Office
TheGeorgiaVirtue requested a statement from the District Attorney’s Office after Wright’s booking on Monday and received the following:
“The Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office is aware that former investigator Andrae Wright has been arrested and is the subject of an ongoing GBI investigation.
Mr. Wright has not been employed by the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office since July 9, 2026. Since becoming aware of the allegations, our office has fully cooperated with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and will continue to do so as requested.
Because this remains an active and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office will have no further comment regarding this matter. We will defer all questions concerning the investigation to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as they continue their work.”
Wright’s Departure from the District Attorney’s Office & Related Records
TheGeorgiaVirtue was made aware of Wright’s departure earlier this month and subsequently filed an Open Records Request with the District Attorney’s Office.
Records provided indicate that an undated letter to Acting D.A. Jillian Gibson indicated the ‘head investigator’ was ‘committing illegal acts’ with his use of some program or software – the name of which was redacted in the ORR due to the pending investigation. The letter continues: “This is against federal law. He has also falsified his timesheets. Everyone knows this in the whole area.”
An anonymous proton email under the name ‘boroanonymous’ was also sent in early July seeking the complete personnel file of Wright and presumably some logs or audits related to the same redacted program or software.
The records provided to TheGeorgiaVirtue also reveal that in early July, Gibson and others were in contact with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council of Georgia with regard to Wright and the “proper and improper use” of some software and/or program, as well as the Terms of agreement.
In a typed letter dated July 9, Wright informed Acting D.A. Gibson that he was resigning from the District Attorney’s Office effective the same date. The letter states he was ‘voluntarily ending’ his employment and the decision was made on his ‘own free will.’
“I agree to immediately return all office property in my possession, including but not limited to keys, identification badges, electronic devices, equipment, records, and any confidential materials belonging to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office,” it reads before including his handwritten signature.
An accompanying document indicates that the resignation was submitted to the state at 10:36 a.m. on July 9.
Wright’s History in Law Enforcement
Wright began his career at the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office in 2001, but was terminated in April 2005. He then went on to work at the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice for a year before he was hired as a jailer at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office in 2006. He worked in that capacity for two years before becoming a deputy sheriff, later a corporal and ultimately an investigator.
After 15 years, in 2021, Wright ‘retired’ from the sheriff’s office and moved to the District Attorney’s Office as an investigator under then-District Attorney Daphne Totten. When District Attorney Robert Busbee took office in January 2025, he was promoted to ‘Chief Investigator’ and worked in that capacity until his departure in July 2026.
According to records obtained by TheGeorgiaVirtue, Wright’s training over his career totaled 2,037 hours.
Termination from Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office & Subsequent POST Investigation
According to records obtained by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Council, Wright was under investigation by POST due to the termination of his employment by BCSO in April 2005.
The POST investigation file states that Wright’s spouse made a complaint with BCSO after an incident that occurred between the two on the campus of a college.
According to the report, Wright had been warned “that he would be terminated if his personal business again interfered with his employment.”
The POST investigation file states that Wright was also disciplined by BCSO with a conference in January 2003 for ‘Interference with internal investigation’ and in September 2004 for violating three agency policies – a traffic offense (speeding) after a verbal warning, failure to update phone numbers, and non-payment of debts. He was suspended for 3 days, placed on probation for 90 days, and moved to a booking officer.
