High school seniors in Effingham County will have a new opportunity this school year to begin preparing for a career in the fire service through a partnership between Effingham County Fire Rescue and Effingham County High School.
In a social media announcement, Effingham County Fire Rescue said it is partnering with Effingham County High School to offer a new Firefighter Pathway Program beginning this fall. The program is designed to introduce students to the firefighting profession while providing training that aligns with the standards expected of new firefighter recruits in Georgia.
According to the department, the course is intended specifically for high school seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in the fire service after graduation. The curriculum is designed to mirror the training recruit firefighters receive at the beginning of their careers, giving students an early introduction to the knowledge and skills required in the profession.
Officials said students who successfully complete the program will be prepared to apply for entry-level firefighter positions and take the State of Georgia’s firefighter entry examination.
