The Screven County Fire Department is one of four fire departments in southeast Georgia set to receive new emergency response equipment through grants totaling nearly $150,000 from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

The grants will provide lifesaving equipment to the Screven County Fire Department, Bryan County Fire and Rescue, Liberty County Fire Rescue, and Pooler Fire Rescue.

According to the Foundation, the funding will support the purchase of personal protective equipment, including bunker gear, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and an inflatable rescue boat. The equipment is intended to improve emergency response capabilities while enhancing firefighter safety.

The Foundation did not specify the individual grant amounts awarded to each department or which equipment will be provided to Screven County. The formal award of the funds is slated for October 29 when representatives from all four departments will participate in a celebration and an equipment demonstration.

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Executive Director Robin Peters and Firehouse Subs Vice President of Operations Theo Camurca are also expected to attend, along with local franchisee Sean Nichols. Nichols recently assumed ownership of four Firehouse Subs locations in Georgia – Pooler, Brice Square Vidalia, Richmond Hill, and Ogeechee in Savannah.
