6th Annual Reading Nook Photo Contest

Literacy Council invites community to enter & vote Feb. 1-28

It’s time to cozy up in a reading nook, get out a good book, read to a child, and you could win.

The Bulloch County Literacy Council’s 6th Annual Reading Nook Photo Contest is open online Feb. 1-28. 
Sponsored by Kid’s World Learning Center, the City of Statesboro, and the Statesboro Herald, the contest celebrates and encourages the joy of families reading together and supports preschool literacy. 
It’s easy for anyone in the community to enter and vote. Here’s how:

  • Visit your favorite reading nook at home, the library, or one for our community’s 50+ reading nooks
  • Snap a clear photo of you reading to a child ages infant to five-years-old.
  • Upload the photo to the contest website at bullochschools.org/read and enter either the Home or Business category.
  • Vote: You and the community may vote for your favorites on the site.

Winners will be announced live during the Literacy Council’s annual Literacy Luau on Tuesday, March 10. Families are invited to attend this free event from 5:30 to 7 p.m., under the Anthony P. Tippins Training Center, located at 207 Lanier Drive, in Statesboro, adjacent to Allen E. Paulson Stadium. Come enjoy kids’ activities, food, and fun. Winners will also be featured in local news media.

The Bulloch County Literacy Council is a collaborative group of educators, representatives from literacy organizations, business and civic organization leaders, and community volunteers. Its purpose is to sustain a community collaborative that works to increase Kindergarten readiness for students from birth through Pre-Kindergarten and to support the improvement of literacy levels for all children in Kindergarten through fifth grade.

The Literacy Council’s Bulloch Read initiative includes the following goals:

  • Reading: Encourage the creation of Reading nooks.
  • Environment: Encourage a literacy-rich Environment.
  • Access: Increase Access to book and reading resources.
  • Development: Increase early brain Development.
