Advisory: Portal school children are safe; Schools are cooperating with law enforcement to maintain a safe zone around schools

Law enforcement has responded to a domestic issue at a residence in Portal, which is near Portal Middle High School and Portal Elementary. Children and employees at the two schools are safe, and they are continuing with their normal school schedule.

In an abundance of caution, both Portal Middle High School and Portal Elementary School have suspended outside activities until further notice.
The schools have communicated with their families. They have asked families to please cooperate with them as they work with law enforcement to maintain a safe zone around the two schools. Law enforcement advises the public to remain out of the area until the situation is contained.

The schools will not allow anyone to enter or exit our buildings at this time. Portal Middle High School is not allowing students to exit the building for off-campus commitments (i.e dual enrollment, work-based learning).

At this time, the two schools’ regular after school dismissal times will continue as scheduled.  If that changes the school system will notify families.
