INJURED/SICK PERSONUNASSIGNED1 ON AUGUST 23, 2026 AT APPROXIMATELY 1314, I WAS DISPATCHED TO EGRMC IN REFERENCE TO AN INDIVIDUAL WITH A SELF INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE FOOT. UPON MY ARRIVAL TO THE SCENE AT APPROXIMATELY 1326, I MADE CONTACT WITH THE INJURED INDIVIDUAL IDENTIFIED AS CORRION JERNIGAN. WHEN ASKED MR. JERNIGAN ADVISED THAT APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO HIS BEING ADMITTED INTO EGRMC HE WAS IN A FIELD ON THE BULLOCH/BRYAN BORDER WITH A COUPLE OF FRIENDS SHOOTING FIREARMS WHEN HE PICKED UP A PISTOL AND AFTER RACKING THE SLIDE A COUPLE TIMES THE FIREARM DISCHARGED WITH THE ROUND STRIKING AND STAYING WITHIN HIS LEFT FOOT. WHILE INTERVIEWING MR. JERNIGAN NURSING STAFF CAME INTO THE AREA AND PROCEEDED TO TAKE AN X-RAY SHOWING THAT THE PROJECTILE WAS STILL IN HIS FOOT AND ALSO SHOWED SEVERAL FRACTURED BONES AS WELL. THE MEDICAL STAFF ADVISED BOTH MYSELF AND MR. JERNIGAN THAT HE WOULD BE TRANSPORTED TO MEMORIAL FOR SURGERY. CID WAS NOTIFIED AND CONTACT WAS MADE WITH INVESTIGATOR WILLIAM SIMS (B-803), INVESTIGATOR SIMS WAS ADVISED OF WHAT I HAD AND ADVISED HE WAS ENROUTE TO THE HOSPITAL. MR. JERNIGAN`S COUSIN WHO WAS ALSO IN THE HOSPITAL ROOM AND WAS PRESENT FOR THIS INCIDENT WAS ALSO IDENTIFIED AS MR. DEVIN PORTER. MR. PORTER`S STATEMENT WAS TAKEN AND HE ADVISED THAT THEY WERE IN A FIELD SHOOTING GUNS WHEN HIS COUSIN SHOT HIMSELF IN THE FOOT. A THIRD INDIVIDUAL IDENTIFIED AS MR. KALEB MATHIS WAS ALSO IDENTIFIED AS BEING INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT, BUT SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO MAKE CONTACT HAVE BEEN FAILED. MR. KALEB MATHIS WAS THE INDIVIDUAL WHO DROVE MR. JERNIGAN AND MR. PORTER DOWN TO STATESBORO FOR THIS EVENT, AND WAS ALSO THE INDIVIDUAL TO BRING BOTH MALES TO EGRMC BEFORE LEAVING THE SCENE. AS OF THIS TIME, NOBODY INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT KNOWS WHERE THE FIREARM INVOLVED IS, OR THE MAKE OR MODEL OF SAID FIREARM. DUE TO THE INCIDENT TAKING PLACE ON A PUBLIC HUNTING GROUND/FIELD MANAGED BY DNR, DNR WAS CONTACTED AND GAME WARDENS WERE DISPATCHED FOR THEIR OWN INCIDENT REPORT. THE ASSOCIATED CRN FOR DNR IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. THIS REPORT IS JUST FOR REFERENCE OF THE INCIDENT.

In 2013, a new law took effect in Georgia prohibiting commercial sites from charging fees to remove inaccurate mug shots. The law also barred law enforcement agencies from releasing mug shots to sites that charge a fee. As a result of the changes, a photo may be removed in some instances.
