Statesboro Police Searching for Aggravated Assault Suspect

The Statesboro Police Department is searching for a man believed to be connected to a recent Aggravated Assault at an apartment in town.

SPD Officers were dispatched on Thursday, June 8 around 7:25 p.m. in response to a man who had been cut across the neck at an apartment on Mulberry Court.

Officers rendered aid and the 49-year-old victim was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center while alert and conscious. He was treated and later released.

Detectives with the agency processed the scene and identified an individual they identified as the offender: 63-year-old Wendell Johnson of Statesboro.

A search warrant was obtained for Johnson’s residence where additional evidence of the crime was located. Johnson himself had fled prior to the arrival of officers. He is currently wanted for one count of Aggravated Assault.

Johnson is 6’00 tall and weighs 215 lbs. He is known to frequent the Groover Lane, Mulberry Street, and Packinghouse Road areas.
