Make A Mini Ofrenda!
This October, the Averitt Center for the Arts is hosting a new workshop & learning about a tradition close to Mrs.G’s heart.
Day of the Dead/ Día de los Muertos is a meaningful holiday celebrated in the fall that commemorates the lives of the dearly departed and welcomes their spirits’ brief return home.
Among the many loving traditions, rituals, and symbols seen in Day of the Dead celebrations, one of the most prominent elements is the Ofrenda.
An Ofrenda is an altar where offerings and photos are placed to honor and remember the dead for Día de los Muertos. Offerings like foods, flowers, and other items of significance to the departed are often included.
“As we move into fall, we are getting ready to celebrate Día de los Muertos in our own special way. We are offering a hands-on community class where you can learn the traditions of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) & create your very own mini altar to honor ancestors and loved ones. Our artist instructor, Georgina Osuna-Diaz, will teach participants about Día de los Muertos and guide you to make your own Ofrenda out of clay.”
2-Part Mini Ofrenda Pottery Workshop

- October 2, 2026, from 6 pm- 8 p.m
- October 9, 2026, from 6 pm – 8 p.m.

Location: Roxie Remley Center for Fine Arts: 31 East Vine St.
Price: $65 per participant
The first day of the workshop will involve creating your ofrenda and all the elements to adorn it. The second day of the workshop will involve the painting/glazing and decoration of the pieces. All supplies will be provided.
The following week, after pieces have been glazed, your handmade ofrenda will be fired in our kilns and ready for you to take home just in time for Día de los Muertos.
