At approximately 5 p.m. on Thurs., Aug. 19, a bus accident occurred on U.S. Highway 80 East near the intersection with Veterans Memorial Parkway.
No children were on the bus at the time of the accident, no injuries were reported at the scene, and no school district personnel were transported.
Law enforcement and school district personnel quickly responded to the scene.
According to the district’s transportation director, the school bus and a truck were both travelling east on U.S. Highway 80 when the truck allegedly pulled into the bus’ lane. The truck hit the front end of the bus, which according to witnesses caused the truck to spin around.
The Statesboro Police Department is in charge of the accident scene. Further information will be released upon completion of the accident investigation.
