Mr. William Madison “Billy” Hodges

Mr. William Madison “Billy” Hodges, Sr., 80, passed away at his residence on December 10, 2023. Billy was born in Sylvania, GA, he was the son of Robert Madison and Luree Hodges. He was reared in Newington and attended the Blue Springs United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Newington High School. He worked for eighteen years at Alfred Dorman Groceries, and twenty-nine years as a team leader at Torrington until his retirement. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan, and in his spare time he would be found fishing, hunting, coaching baseball, tending his garden, or watching Westerns. He was a member of the Oliver Hunting Club, Clarke’s Coffee Club, the Marine Rescue Squad and attended Newington United Methodist Church. Billy never met a stranger in his eighty year life and will be remembered for “joshin” and his deep love and devotion to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Henry Hodges, sister, Shelby Scott and brother-in-law, Ernest Yearwood. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Lena Lanette “Nanny” Shuman Hodges; children, Hope and Lewis Eason, Bill Jr. and Rebecca Hodges, Heidi Cowart, and Bob and Yolonda Hodges, and Sandy Mallard; grandchildren, Meghan and Chris Crockett, Lehman and Alley Eason, Lane and Emily Hodges, Landon and Tiffany Hodges, Harley McIlrath and Shayne Humphrey, Bobby and Camille Hodges, and Maddux Hodges, great-grandchildren, Kamryn Crockett, Kane Crockett, Adalynn Eason, Alayah Hodges, Woodlynn Hodges, and Kimber Humphrey; bonus grandchildren, Duane Hattrich, and Emily Stewart; siblings, Elise and Freddy Deal of Portal, Juanita Yearwood of Milledgeville, Bobby and Norma Jean Farmer of Newington, brother-in-law, Ricky Scott of Sylvania; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Joiner Anderson Screven Chapel with Rev. Dr. Karen Zeigler and Rev. Steve Purnell officiating. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Blue Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Hattrich, Barry Hattrich, Duane Hattrich, W.C. Stringer, Wayne Smoak, Edmund Barrs, Gene Marsh, Larry Dugger, Sandy Mallard, and Meghan Crockett.
