JoAnn Avret Alloways, 86, of Sylvania passed on November 5, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born to Charles Marion and Estelle Ellen Bragg Avret on January 20, 1937. She retired with 32 years of service from the Screven County Board of Education as secretary of the Screven County Elementary School, and prior, the Sylvania Elementary School. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church of Sylvania and served in the Maude Waters Circle, as church pianist, and along with her late husband, the establishment of a Sunday school and church service at Syl-View nursing home. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, The Gideons Auxiliary and a Jaycette. After her retirement, she spent everyday keeping her great grands. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Emory Joseph Alloways and brothers, Joe Avret, Jerry Avret, and Ron Avret. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and John Withrow and Michelle and Wilton Stubbs, all of Sylvania, a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Donna Alloways of North Augusta, SC, grandchildren, Wes and Leigh Ann Withrow, Jamie W. and Mark Smith, all of Sylvania and Chandler and Cassidy Alloways of North Augusta, great-grandson, Griffin Smith; great-granddaughters, Carlee Smith, Anna Kate Withrow, Ava Withrow, and Ella Withrow; sister, Charlotte A. Lambert of Sylvania; and sister-in-law, Kathy Avret of Mansfield. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00pm at the Joiner Anderson Funeral Home Screven Chapel. Services will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 4:00pm in the Screven Chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home with Wes Withrow officiating. Interment will follow in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family.
