Contractors for Georgia DOT will shift US 1 southbound traffic Thursday, December 15 between George Hill Road and State Route 56 around the Toombs Central area in Toombs County.
Â
US 1 southbound traffic will shift to the newly constructed southbound travel lanes in the new alignment for the US 1 widening project. This traffic shift will occur around 10 a.m., which takes tremendous coordination and could last a few hours. Motorists should expect travel delays.
Â
After this shift, all traffic will be on the US 1 widening project alignment from Plant Hatch to State Route 56. This $66.9 million widening project is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2023.
Â
As in any work zone, motorists are reminded to pay special attention to traffic control devices, signs and posted speed limits to ensure safe passage through the area. All work is weather contingent and subject to change.  Â
