Detour starts June 1 from Midville to Waynesboro

In two weeks, drivers must detour off State Route (SR) 56 between Waynesboro and Midville for 45 days. The ongoing Mill Creek bridge replacement requires this off-site trek to complete the $2.418 million job on time.

United Infrastructure Group will shut down the location six miles northeast of Midville Tuesday, June 1 and reopen Friday, July 16. The signed detour uses SR 305 and SR 24 to get back to SR 56.

This infrastructure project is upgrading an out-of-date structure built in 1926 and widened in 1960. Thirty percent of daily vehicles are large trucks, making this a strategic Burke County freight and logistics enhancement.
