Fall Plans? Make Sure the Flu Isn’t One of Them!

This is a press release from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

This flu season, your best protection is available at your local county health department. Flu vaccines are currently available at all health departments across the Southeast Health District.

In the U.S., flu season typically spans the fall and winter months, with flu activity usually starting in October and peaking between December and February. Getting vaccinated before flu activity peaks provides the best opportunity to build protection and help reduce the spread of illness within the community.

A yearly flu vaccine is the first line of defense against the flu and is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for everyone age 6 months and older. Vaccination is especially important for certain high-risk groups, including young children, pregnant women, adults aged 65 and older, and individuals with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, or heart disease).

Immunizations are available as a walk-in service at all health departments within the district. Additionally, several counties within the Southeast Health District will be hosting drive-thru flu shot clinics, allowing you to roll in for protection and cruise out with peace of mind. Learn more about our drive-thru clinics, dates, and times by visiting www.sehdph.org/flu-clinics-2026.

We kindly ask that you bring a form of identification and your insurance card (if you have coverage) when you come to receive a flu vaccine. The cost of flu vaccination is typically covered by insurance, and health departments accept many health insurance plans. There are low-cost vaccination options for individuals without health insurance coverage.
