23 Killed on Georgia Roads During Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Period

Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Troopers investigated 12 fatal traffic crashes, and local law enforcement agencies investigated six fatal traffic crashes resulting in 23 deaths across Georgia during the 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

Local law enforcement agencies reporting fatalities during the holiday period which began Wednesday, November 22, at 6:00 p.m. and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, November 26, include the:

  • Atlanta Police Department
  • Columbus Police Department
  • DeKalb County Police Department
  • Henry County Police Department
  • Rome Police Department
  • South Fulton Police Department

In addition to fatal crashes, Troopers investigated over 560 traffic crashes statewide, resulting in nearly 250 injuries. Troopers and Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD) Officers made over 18,000 traffic stops, arrested more than 350 individuals for driving under the influence (DUI), issued nearly 800 seatbelt citations, issued almost 500 distracted citations, and issued more than 11,000 warnings and over 10,000 citations.

These crash statistics are preliminary findings and can change any time after the holiday travel period.
