Two Georgia Senators and three State Representatives are asking Governor Brian Kemp to investigate the mayor in the city of Stockbridge.
Sen. Emanuel Jones, Sen. Gail Davenport, Rep. El-Mahdi Holly, Rep. Demetrius Douglas, and Rep. Regina Lewis-Ward penned a letter last week to Kemp and issued a statement for the media regarding allegations of improper use of taxpayer dollars and sexual misconduct. Both allegations involve Stockbridge Mayor Jayden Williams.
Stockbridge Mayor Jayden Williams is facing a city investigation into a range of allegations involving his use of public funds, workplace conduct and an alleged inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old high school student.
The controversy began publicly in July 2026, when the Stockbridge City Council restricted Williams’ access to city purchasing and fuel cards, city vehicles and nonpublic areas of city facilities while an independent investigator reviewed complaints against him. The city has said the investigation originated with concerns raised by city employees and financial transactions flagged by staff.
Senator Jones’ statement was released following the letter to Kemp:
“The City of Stockbridge House and Senate Delegation is aware and deeply concerned by the serious allegations of improper use of taxpayer dollars and sexual misconduct involving Mayor Jayden Williams.
While we understand the Stockbridge City Council’s desire to act swiftly, we believe the Council should stand down from its removal proceedings and allow Governor Brian P. Kemp to launch a full-scale investigation into the allegations against Mayor Williams. Given the critical nature of these claims, this investigation must be handled at the highest appropriate level of state authority.
We have faith that Governor Kemp will take the appropriate action once all of the facts have been established. If the allegations are substantiated, we must hold those responsible accountable.
The Stockbridge community deserves answers and the confidence that this investigation is being handled fairly. A thorough investigation by the State would be an important first step toward establishing the facts, ensuring accountability and allowing the City of Stockbridge to begin moving forward.”
