State Employees, Teachers, School Personnel Signed Now Have More Paid Parental Leave

State employees, teachers, and public school personnel now have more paid parental leave thanks to a law signed by Governor Kemp.

Kemp recently signed House Bill 1010 into law, which increases the number of hours of annual paid parental leave for state employees and teachers and school personnel from three to six weeks.

The bill’s sponsor, Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones of Milton, said the following in a press release:

“This significant legislation demonstrates our commitment to supporting working families across Georgia and promoting work-life balance to ensure that parents have the support they need during important family milestones. Paid parental leave, available for the birth of a child or the foster and adoption placement of a child, is a crucial benefit that empowers employees to prioritize their family responsibilities without compromising their financial security. I am thrilled to see HB 1010 become law and extend my gratitude to Speaker of the House Jon Burns and my House colleagues for their support in advancing this measure to the governor’s desk.”

HB 1010 doubles the annual paid parental leave for state employees and employees of local education agencies from three to six weeks.

This leave can be utilized for the birth of a child or the foster and adoption placement of a child.

The bill also mandates employers to inform eligible employees of these benefits upon hiring and on an annual basis thereafter.
