Members of Rome City Schools Transportation Department met bright and early and Rome City’s Fire Education Building in anticipation of the department’s annual bus driver training in collaboration with the City of Rome.
Through a special partnership with the Rome Fire Department, bus drivers, monitors and other pertinent staff members were able to receive hands-on training, including how to use fire extinguishers if needed.
Elander Graham, Sr., Director of Transportation for Rome City Schools, welcomed the crowd as he introduced several key speakers for the day. Guest speakers from the Rome Fire Department were Fire Marshall Chewning along with Mrs. Shasta Farrer.
“We are very thankful to have had key members of the RCS community come and speak to our attendees about bus safety,” said Graham.
Louis Byars (RCS Superintendent), Angie Newby (Director of Human Resources for RCS), Kirsten Thornante (System Social Worker/Homeless Liaison/Foster Care Point of Contact for Rome City Schools), Jason Self (Director of Safety and Security for RCS), Jimmy Sprayberry, Christina Buffington and Dawn Shaw (all with the RCS Transportation Department) were just a handful of the speakers Graham invited to contribute to the various topics covered.
“Our speakers touched on topics like bus driver and monitor procedures, what to expect of our Human Recourses Department, maintenance of our buses, an overview of our Bus Drivers Guide and most importantly, the safety of our students while loading and unloading buses,” explained Graham.
“Everyone here at the Rome City Schools Transportation Department is looking forward to a safe start to the 2021-2022 school year!” smiled Graham.
