Effingham Commissioner Escorted Out Back Door After Half Day in Jail

Video surveillance footage obtained by TGV News shows that an Effingham County Commissioner was escorted out the back door of the jail to another building following his arrest last week.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Commissioner Reginald “Reggie” Loper a week ago on charges of Child Molestation and Sexual Battery. Additional information released since last Wednesday indicates that the charges stem from an investigation which began in January of this year.

Unlike most defendants who must await a bond hearing before a Superior Court Judge, which can take days or weeks, Loper was released just six hours after his arrest.

TGV News requested the video surveillance footage from the jail on Thursday, seeking files that would show Loper’s departure.

The footage shows Loper leaving out a back exit of the building at the time news cameras and reporters were setting up for their evening broadcasts, some from the Jail parking lot.

Just after 4:45 p.m., Loper’s wife is seen entering the jail and taking a seat in the jail lobby. A jailer then releases Loper, dressed in an orange jumpsuit, from a holding cell so he can change back into his clothes.

At 5:11 p.m, Loper is seen exiting through the back door of the jail with two jailers. They walk out the sallyport to another jailer or deputy and walk over to the Sheriff’s Office building adjacent to the jail. The four enter the building.

Less than five minutes later and unprompted by anyone entering the jail lobby, Loper’s wife exits the jail lobby and does not return.

Loper has not stepped down from his elected post. Following his arrest, the Effingham County Board of Commissioners issued a statement offering their prayers to Loper during this time.

  1. All ready getting special treatment. They should be shamed and embarrassed just like the people him and his ugly wife has lied about since he became a county commissioner. Hope he burns in H***.
