Pembroke Mayor Launches ‘Caught Being Good’ Initiative to Highlight Positivity in Community

Pembroke Mayor Tiffany Ziegler is asking residents to spend a little more time looking for the good happening around them and to help make sure those responsible for it get recognized.

Ziegler announced the launch of “Caught Being Good: The Pembroke Positivity Project,” a new community initiative aimed at highlighting acts of kindness, generosity, service and encouragement connected to Pembroke.

“There is a lot of good happening in our community every single day,” Ziegler said in announcing the project on social media.

The mayor said the initiative is intended to draw attention to both large and small acts that can easily go unnoticed, from neighbors helping one another to young people making good choices, employees going above and beyond or strangers simply taking the time to make someone else’s day a little better.

“A neighbor helping a neighbor. A young person doing the right thing when no one is watching. Someone stopping to lend a hand,” Ziegler wrote. “Sometimes these acts are big. More often, they’re small. I think it’s time we started noticing them.”

Caught Being Good

Through the project, members of the public can nominate anyone whose kindness or positive actions have made a difference in the Pembroke community.

Ziegler suggested nominees such as children, teenagers, adults, neighbors, employees, volunteers, teachers, coaches, first responders, church members, city employees and others. A person can even nominate a stranger after witnessing an act worthy of recognition.

The city will select stories to share publicly as a way of recognizing some of the people making a positive impact on the community.

Ziegler emphasized that the program is not a competition and does not come with a monetary award or other prize.

“There is no prize to win and no popularity contest,” she said. “This is simply about doing something I think we could all use a little more of: Celebrating the GOOD.”

Nominees are also not required to live within the Pembroke city limits, but the act of kindness, service or other positive contribution must have a meaningful connection to Pembroke or to people who live, work, attend school, serve or otherwise spend time in the community.

Nominations can be submitted through the Caught Being Good: The Pembroke Positivity Project form at bit.ly/PembrokePositive.

“And then keep looking,” Ziegler said. “You never know who you’ll catch being good next.”
