Camden County Emergency Management Tests New Tool

Camden County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) recently tested new community warning equipment purchased through Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funding.

The new Long Range Acoustical Devices (LRAD) provides clear long range live voice or prerecorded messages over long distances.

“The LRADs provide another method for information dissemination during an emergency situation,” said Emergency Management Director Chuck White. “This will benefit Camden County in circumstances where broadcasting information in a direct and timely fashion is paramount.”

Camden County contributed $3,725, or 25% of the cost, to purchase two LRADs from the county’s grant match fund. Combined with the $11,175 received in grant funds, the LRAD systems totaled $14,900. Acquiring the LRADs was included in Camden County’s 2022-2027-2037 Strategic Plan.
