Screven County Correctional Institute received a score of 73 on its most recent health inspection conducted by the Georgia Department of Public Health.
The Screven County Correctional Institute (SCCI) is a facility operated by the Georgia Department of Corrections and is not the same facility as the Screven County Jail, which is operated by the Sheriff.
Inspectors visited SCCI on May 7, 2025 and noted number of issues which ultimately led to the score of 73. Among the listed conditions:
- Observed employee working in kitchen without having wash hands due to hand sink having no running water and no drainage pipes.
- Correction Action – Repair immediately
Advertisements - Observed walk in cooler not keeping food at proper cold holding temperature – <41 degrees
- Correction Action – Maintenance called to repair cool and bring temperature down. Corrected on site
- Observed several dented cans in dry storage area – Food not in good condition, safe, and unadulterated
- Corrective Action move to side for disposal and do not use for food service
According to the report, the Department of Health is set to return on May 13 for a follow-up inspection.
The ‘C’ grade is a decline from the November 2024 score of 95 and the December 2023 score of 96.
