The two inmates who escaped from the Tattnall County Jail’s recreation yard last month are back in custody.
John Herbert Mincey and Meahki Asahmad Carter escaped on October 10, 2022. Though the Sheriff’s Office immediately began searching for the pair, efforts failed to yield their arrest for almost a month.
Mincey was being held on Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, and Terroristic Threats charges as well as a Probation Violation.
Carter was being held for Multiple Counts of Entering Auto, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During a Crime.
On Wednesday, November 2, Mincey and Carter were both taken into custody by the US Marshal’s Service, Leon County Sheriff’s Office and the Tallahassee Police Department in Tallahassee, Florida. Both inmates are currently being held in the Leon County Jail awaiting transport back to Tattnall County, Georgia.
Both inmates have been charged with the new offense of Escape in addition to their original charges.
Sheriff Kyle Sapp, in a press released, thanked all of those who were involved in the capture of the two inmates, including the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Department of Corrections Canine Unit, the Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tallahassee Police Department.
