Mayor Responds After Homicide, Slew of 5 Shootings in One Week

The Statesboro Police Department reported Tuesday morning that it was searching for an individual responsible for two shootings on April 13 and detectives were investigating a homicide that occurred on April 17. The latter incident left a 19-year-old dead.

Now, Statesboro Mayor Jonathan McCollar is speaking out on social media about the slew of shootings just this week all of which have occurred inside the city limits.

Other Incidents

Over the weekend, on April 15, Statesboro Police responded to a shooting in downtown which occurred at the Suga Shack. The venue was hosting an after prom party for Statesboro High School.

On April 11, SPD responded to Cambridge at Southern the Palms on Lanier Drive for a male shot. He was airlifted to Savannah.

In recent years, city officials in Statesboro of both the elected and appointed varieties have largely ignored cries for help from public safety officials.

In April 2022, downtown Statesboro was littered with bullets after a shooting spree near several businesses, but city officials made no mention of the incident publicly.
