Lee Receives DAISY Award at East Georgia Regional Medical Center

Erika Lee, LPN, was honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.

A nurse within the Telemetry unit and at EGRMC for almost two years, Lee received multiple nominations from patients for the award.

One patient stated, “I want to show my gratitude for Erika‘s kindness and compassion that she showed me during my stay at East Georgia. All of the staff who cared for me deserve nominations, but Erika was extremely delicate and compassionate with how she treated me. She made me feel safe, made me smile and protected my identity during a sensitive time in my life. She is a mature young woman, a healer and protector and a comforter, a woman of strength and love.”

Another patient added, ”I am pleasantly content with my nurse, Erika. It is super easy to tell when a person is truly genuine, and when a person cares for their job. Erika was super helpful, thoughtful and considerate. She went above and beyond to make sure I was safe and comfortable. She cares about her patients. She wore a smile each time she came into the room. I noticed that she also interacts with her coworkers greatly. We need more nurses like her. She was amazing.”

“Erika is a shining example of kindness and compassion and is the kind of nurse we all hope to have if we find ourselves as a patient,” said Marie Burdett, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at East Georgia Regional Hospital. “She is incredibly deserving of this recognition, and we are honored to have her as part of our team.”

Nurses may be nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, family members, and colleagues. The award recipient is chosen by a committee at EGRMC.

“We are proud to be among the hospital systems participating in The DAISY Award program,” said Stephen Pennington, CEO of East Georgia Regional Medical Center. “Nurses are heroes everyday. It’s important that our nurses know their work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides another way for us to do that. “We are pleased to honor Erika with this award, and we thank her for the safe, compassionate care she gives to all of her patients at EGRMC.”

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, an auto-immune disease. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
