2 Arrested for Armed Robbery at Georgia Southern RAC, 3 Others Named in Warrants

This story has been updated to reflect the initials of a minor. Initially, the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office released the information of an individual who was listed as 18. His booking photo, name, and addressed were published and he appear on the BCSO jail website. Since then, warrants were filed which reflect that he is 16-years-old. As a result, we have removed his photo and redacted his name.

Two individuals have been arrested following an Armed Robbery at the Recreation Activity Center on the campus of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.

The incident happened on Thursday, April 3 around 8:45 p.m. 

According to court records, and another individual used “a firearm or replica to unlawfully take property, a Glock 19 pistol, from the [victim].”

16-year-old K.J of Sylvania was arrested April 21. According to Bulloch County Jail records, he was released the same day.

Georgia Southern police officers sought warrants for another individual on April 18 for allegedly transporting four individuals to the location of the armed robbery.

Jy’Nesha Desaree Brown, 21 of Sylvania, was arrested on April 19. She’s been charged with Armed Robbery for participating in the ‘commission of Armed Robbery by transporting [Jones and three others] to the location where the act of Armed Robbery was executed against [the victim].’

Brown remains behind bars as her bond was denied at her first appearance hearing in Magistrate Court.

Armed Robbery is among the crimes under The Clery Act for public institutions that receive federal funds, but the discretion is left to campus officials to determine whether or not a ‘timely warning’ needs to be issued to staff and students based on their determination of a serious or ongoing threat to the campus community.

Update 4/24/25 – The District Attorney’s Office has dismissed the warrant against Brown, citing insufficient evidence. Read more on the case here.
