Armed Robbery Warrant Dismissed Shortly After DA’s Office Receives Case File

The warrant for a young Sylvania woman charged with Armed Robbery has been dismissed.

Samuel Derr with the Georgia Southern Police Department took out warrants for Brown and at least one other individual on April 18. Brown’s warrants listed four individuals by name, all of whom she was accused of transporting to Georgia Southern University. Warrants stated that the individuals then took a Glock 19 from another juvenile at gunpoint on campus.

Brown was arrested over the weekend and booked into the Bulloch County Jail. She was denied bond at her First Appearance before a magistrate judge as individuals charged with Armed Robbery must appear before a Superior Court Judge to be considered for bond.

But the case did not make it that far. The warrant for Jynesha Desaree Brown was dismissed Wednesday, shortly after the case file made its way to the District Attorney’s Office.

Wednesday morning, Assistant District Attorney Jillian Gibson dismissed the warrant for Brown, writing “There is insufficient evidence with which to successfully prosecute this case at this time.” Gibson is one of two attorneys over the circuit’s Major Crimes Unit in the District Attorney’s Office. Jail records show Brown was released Wednesday after five days behind bars.

Among the others named in the warrant for Brown was an individual, K.J., whose name and photo were distributed by the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office in their daily media report. The booking photo listed his name, address, and that he is 18-years-old. His name was also posted on the jail website. But warrants for K.J. listed him with a birth date of 2009, making him just a few months over the age of sixteen. It is unclear at this time why there is such confusion with his date of birth, but as of Thursday morning, the record of K.J. being booked into the Bulloch County Jail was no longer available on the website.

A person close to the juveniles who were charged told TheGeorgiaVirtue.com that the incident is not what was charged by Georgia Southern PD. Instead, they said a 16-year-old juvenile was in possession of a firearm. He willingly allowed another juvenile to hold the pistol, but the juvenile did not return the weapon to the 16-year-old when asked to do so. A report was filed the next day. The person suggested the charge, at best, was theft because the gun was not taken by use of a weapon – an element of Armed Robbery. Notably, Armed Robbery is punishable by life in prison whereas the Theft convictions carry considerably lighter sentences.

The Dean of Students at Georgia Southern also confirmed that the incident was reported 18 hours after it occurred.
