A firefighter with the City of Statesboro was arrested overnight Sunday following an incident with a firearm at an apartment complex.
As posted on the Statesboro Police Department Facebook page Sunday:
Last night into early morning, officers of the Statesboro Police Department responded to an address on Caribe Court regarding a disturbance. Upon arrival, the resident discharged a firearm several times. Officers evacuated several nearby and adjoining apartments while the subject sporadically continued to discharge a firearm.
A trained negotiator spoke with the subject on the phone in an effort to get him to surrender peacefully. Ultimately, SPD SWAT put chemical agents into the apartment in an effort to get the man to come out, and when that was ineffective, the team entered the apartment and took the subject into custody.
The subject, identified as 22 year old Hunter Quinton, was booked into the jail. We are grateful the situation was resolved safely and sincerely appreciate the patience of those nearby residents who were temporarily displaced.
According to Bulloch County jail records, Quinton was charged with:
- Aggravated Assault (F)
- Criminal Damage to Property (1st degree) (F)
- Criminal Damage to Property (2nd degree) (F) – 2 counts
- Possession of a Firearm During Commission of or Attempt to Commit Certain Felonies (F)
- Criminal Trespass (m)
- Reckless Conduct (m) – 2 counts
The jail website indicates Quinton is still behind bars as of Monday evening, waiting for bond to be set.
Statesboro Fire Chief Tim Grams notified staff just before lunch on Monday that Quinton was no longer employed with the fire department, effective immediately.
